AI workout plans: what to expect, and how to use one well

By Fitholae Product Team · Published · Updated · 6 min read

A generated plan sits between a magazine template and a personal coach. It can account for your equipment, schedule, experience and goal in seconds — but it cannot see your fourth rep, and it does not know your shoulder still hurts unless you tell it.

What the generator actually does

Fitholae builds your plan from your Fitness Passport: goal, experience level, available days, session length, equipment and any limitations you have recorded. It then selects movement patterns, allocates weekly sets per muscle group, and sequences the session so heavy compound work comes first.

The output is a starting structure with sensible volume and exercise selection — the part that takes a coach an hour and a beginner a year of trial and error.

Where it beats a generic plan

A downloaded PDF assumes a full gym and five free evenings. A generated plan can rebuild itself around dumbbells in a bedroom, three days a week, 35 minutes each, avoiding overhead pressing because of a shoulder issue — and regenerate again when your circumstances change next month.

Where a human still wins

Technique correction, pain management, rehabilitation and competition preparation all need eyes on the athlete. If something hurts in a specific joint on a specific movement, that is a physiotherapist question, not a prompt question.

Giving better inputs

The quality of the plan tracks the quality of the brief. Be specific and be honest — describing the schedule you wish you had produces a plan you will not follow.

  • State exact equipment, including dumbbell weight range
  • Give realistic days and minutes per session
  • Name any painful movements so they are avoided
  • Choose one primary goal per block rather than three

Use it as a starting point, not scripture

Run the plan for six to eight weeks, log every session, and progress the loads yourself. If an exercise consistently causes discomfort, swap it for a similar pattern. If sessions run 20 minutes over, cut the last accessory movement.

The plan supplies structure; your logbook supplies progression. Both together are what actually produce results.

Frequently asked questions

Is an AI plan safe for complete beginners?

Yes, when you state your experience level honestly and start with conservative loads.

How often should I regenerate the plan?

Every 8–12 weeks, or whenever your schedule, equipment or goal changes.

Can it replace a physiotherapist?

No. Any pain, injury or medical condition needs a qualified professional.
