Ideal Weight Calculator — a healthy range for your height

Maintained by the Fitholae Editorial Team · Formulas and thresholds taken from the sources listed at the end of this page

There is no single ideal weight, only a range that supports health and performance. This calculator shows the three classic clinical formulas next to a BMI-derived range using Indian cut-offs.

Find your healthy weight range

BMI range (Indian)
54.7–67.7 kg
Devine formula
67.7 kg
Robinson formula
66.7 kg
Miller formula

Why you get a range, not a number

The Devine, Robinson and Miller formulas were built for drug dosing, not aesthetics, and they disagree with each other by several kilograms. Frame size, muscle mass and training history all shift where you should sit inside the range.

Body composition beats the scale

Two people at the same height and weight can look and perform completely differently. Pair this range with the body fat calculator and a waist measurement before deciding you need to lose or gain anything.

Getting there sustainably

Aim for 0.5 to 0.75 percent of bodyweight change per week. Faster than that and you lose muscle on the way down or add unnecessary fat on the way up.

Frequently asked questions

What is the ideal weight for 5'6"?

Roughly 55 to 65 kg for most adults depending on sex and frame. The calculator prints your exact range once you enter your height.

Is ideal weight different for Indians?

The BMI-derived range is narrower because Indian cut-offs place the healthy ceiling at a BMI of 22.9 rather than 24.9.

Should muscular people use this?

Treat it as a rough guide only. Well-muscled lifters often sit above the range at a healthy body-fat percentage.
